Dumpling Depot

We ordered two types of dumplings — fish and chive and pork and cabbage. The wrappers had a nice chewy texture and the dumplings were pretty good! I liked the fish and chive ones a bit better, but there are a whole host of filling options. Prices are pretty reasonable for the area. There is a 5% cash discount for orders over $15. Overall, a decent no-frills spot to get a variety of dumplings. We’ll probably come back to try some of their other offerings.

The dishes were hit or miss. The cucumber salad and boiled pork/Napa cabbage dumplings were delicious. The eggplant was so oily, we had to tilt the plate to let the oil collect. The beef tendon soup noodles were very salty; we didn’t eat half of it. The XLB skin was much too thick and the meat inside was not seasoned. You order through an app on your phone, so there’s pretty much no service. Lastly, the ambience is not nice. The dining room doubles as a storage room.

Let me start by saying, this place is sketchy. You walk in, no one greets you so you’re there standing not knowing if you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. Once you realize you can sit anywhere no one comes to your table to say hi or anything. This place is dirty, everything on the table is sticky and there’s supply boxes lined up against the wall. The walls are nasty and the floor was dirty. I guess they have no storage in their back room. Once you order your food from the CR Code menu your food comes out and no one checks on you after that. If you want something you have to get up and ask. Lastly it’s unsanitary. They were cutting green beans on a table next to us which was questionable to say the least. Food prep should not be done in the dining room in front of customers. Customers walking by the table of green beans bumping into them is so unsanitary! Never going back this is place is disgusting.

High expectations for this place and I was not disappointed. The braised beef roll is exceptional. The dumplings are great, especially the lamb and chives. Spicy eggplant was good but I thought it came with tofu? So many things on the menu look good, next time I'll get fried rice, a noodle dish, salt and pepper fish, mapo tofu and green beans. Highly recommend!

I've had delivery from here at least 4 times. Each time, I've been disappointed with my food (except the green onion pancakes and spring rolls), and chose something different the next time. The food is just... Not good. It either lacks flavor (chow mein, Beijing noodles), has an unappealing flavor (mapo tofu, salt and pepper tofu), is absurdly salty (garlic string beans) or is absurdly oily (salt and pepper tofu again). Last night I threw up the salt and pepper tofu, and there was literally a visible layer of oil on the water+vomit in the toilet. I'm done.

solid spot for chinese food, though some dishes are definitely better than others! based on all of the dishes we tried, the dumplings were definitely our favorite—the skin is perfectly chewy, it’s a texture only achieved with fresh handmade skin. as someone who usually finds it a waste to order boiled dumplings at a restaurant, these were SO delicious and i would 100% come back to eat here just for the dumplings. the salt and pepper fish filet was also delicious; perfectly crispy and you could really taste the wok hei in the peppers and onions—only criticism is that it could have use a little more seasoning. next, the spicy wontons were solid, but just nothing too special. the lotus root salad was fine as well, good flavor and bery refreshing. our disappointment of the night was the dan dan noodles :( they came out looking SO promising but we just felt it was completely lacking in all flavor—there was no spicy/meaty/umami-ness, just a bit salty and vaguely creamy but no sesame taste. service was fast, ordering was easy—would come again for the dumplings!
